LOADS FOR RADIOMETRIC REFERENCEPasquali Microwave Systems supplies a wide range of microwave absorbers to support the calibration and test of wireless & satellite antenna systems. Eccosorb large calibrator plates and small targets (loads) have been manufactured for ESA Planck LFI operating at a temperature of 4K.
Developed for on-earth calibration of ESA PLANCK LFI (Low Frequency Instrument).
This calibrator is made of 40 panels of ECCOSORB™ pyramids covering an aluminium plate with diameter 780 mm. The pyramids (height= 20 mm; base length = 10 mm) are sized so that the full layer of ECCOSORB™ behaves as a “blackbody” i.e. absorbing al RF emissions up to Q-Band, thus permitting the on-earth calibration of the radiotelescope instrument.
The cylindrical calibrator (diameter = 200 mm; height = 300 mm) has internal walls completely covered by a layer squared base pyramids in ECCOSORB™ (height= 30 mm; base length = 5 mm). The layer of pyramids absorbs the RF power and minimizes reflections, thus reproducing a “blackbody”, i.e. a clear sky. The calibration of a single radiometer is performed when its feed-horn is placed into the cylinder.
